Fly53: TWO new competitions

October 22, 2010

Fly53 know how to treat their fans, and this week is no exception….

First up is a major competition for the ‘outfitters for the resistance’, kicking off today (October 22nd) through to the 31st. Our sources tell us…

“After many years of whispers and rumors FLY53 founding Father, Captain Lenny ‘Wolfman’ Grubbs was finally discovered and tempted back into the FLY53 fold. Mystery, supposition and controversy still surround his life and his activities remain hazy to even the inner most circle of Fly53.  Suffice to say ‘The Wolfman’ is back. To commemorate him and the original FLY53 team a collection of engraved skulls have been created, with a special Limited Edition “Golden Skull” for The Wolfman himself.

Who knew that Fly53’s name is actually taken from the ‘under-publicised’ 1970 Bolivian Olympic games. Featuring the now-outlawed sport of “Full Contact Kickball” for the first and last time, the story goes that the games were dominated by the FLY53 team,  (Dubbed “The Wolf Team” due to the beast-like  appearance of team captain Lenny Grubbs), scoring a record number of points and inflicting an unprecedented amount of injuries on opposing team members. Back in the UK, the seemingly invincible “Wolfman Grubbs” was kidnapped by a radical anti-kickball protest group, his fate remained a  mystery for many years, although rumours suggested he was neutered and found working as a florist in Kidderminster!”

In honour of ‘The Wolfman’, they’ve hidden skulls across the site allowing you to get £53 off every offer over £150! Plus the chance to win a gold skull and a special Fly53 prize. There will be one winner announced per day between 25th and 31st October 2010, which means there are 7 chances of winning!

That’s not all… for everyone signing up to their mailing list, they’re offering the chance to everyone who signs up to their mailing list to win a year’s worth of Fly53 t-shirts. Check it out here.

Fullcircle: The New Ergonomics

October 18, 2010

You might think ergonomics has more to do with cars. You’d be right, but Fullcircle are turning fashion on its head once again by using this method of designing more streamlined, sculpted and dynamic clothes in their autumn collection.

Take this Ergosutra peacoat. The arms have been curved and sculpted to properly fit your arm and give movement, rather than cut like straight tubes. There’s a curved chinguard, and a fitted shape throughout with glove-like cuffs at the sleeves.

Inspired by a new generation of designers such as Aitor Throup, this tough and protective new approach to design runs through all of Fullcircle’s menswear for autumn. Still don’t get it? Think panelling and designing directly onto the body- garments are cut just like body armour, biker jackets or military garments.

Everyone hearts Firetrap X Kate Moross

October 15, 2010

The Firetrap x Kate Moross party this week was on every celebrity, newspaper, magazine, blogger and journalist’s lips- and here’s images of The Saturday’s Frankie Sandford and Mollie King on their way to the event! The big gossip is that The Saturdays brought suitcases (!) with them and were ushered downstairs in Firetrap’s Covent Garden store to have their pick of the new collection.

BiglightBuzz was there, hobnobbing with the fashion industry’s finest, watching Jodie Harsh and DJ’s Kele Okereke and Amber Le Bon while enjoying delicious cupcakes from Bea’s of Bloomsbury and nabbing our Firetrap goodie bags…

Blogs and newspapers went into overdrive covering the event, with everyone from Radio 1’s Sarah Jane Crawford to Joe McElderry and gossip queen Zoe Griffin there, and bigwigs from the likes of Heat, more! and The Sun getting in on the act too.

FLY53’s mid-season sale: top picks

October 8, 2010

Mid-season mania’s taking over fashion- we all know what it’s like, you turn up at a sale only to find the neon jumpers and moonboots are on sale but the actual good stuff rarely is.

Fly53 never does things by half though, and their individual product still looks good with a reduced price tag. For men, there’s denim shirts- still a massive trend, button them up under a v-neck for winter or let them loose next summer over a coloured t-shirt. Talking of, euphoric colours are still massive for next season’s menswear, so this t-shirt and striped optical jacket are perfect. Finally, there’s a nice, coloured woven belt- the type of accessory Fly53 does so well.

Womenswear’s more subtle and deconstructed- we heart this killer minidress that could be worn simply with a clutch and leggings for evening, a neo-minimalist polo neck sweater dress and this longline, loose plaid parka. Festival chic all year round with skinny jeans, boots and long t-shirts.

Click here for the 50% off sale and as always, sign up to become an affiliate for Fly53 here and earn commission on clickthroughs and banners.

Firetrap X Kate Moross

October 7, 2010

Kate Moross. Firetrap. Need we say more? One (below) is an uber-talented graphic designer and art director, only 24 years of age, having worked with everyone from Cabdury’s to Vogue to Topshop to La Roux and provided visuals, album covers, t-shirts and illustrations for plenty of amazing bands including Simian Mobile Disco, Heartsrevolution and Midnight Juggernauts (did we mention she has her own record label, Isomorphs?) Yes, we’d be jealous if she wasn’t so good.

Her latest project is an update of Firetrap’s iconic Alpha watch, in three unisex, strictly limited edition colourways. With a wild graphic face designed by Kate, what better way to start wearing next Spring’s colour trend?

The media’s already raving about them, with coverage from Vogue, Time Out and Attitude below. With the launch next week, they’re sure to be everywhere.
